How the story begins

NarratorAt 3:47 AM, the incident alert cut straight through Wolfy’s sleep. The cluster was failing: sixty-seven percent of pods in CrashLoopBackOff, gateway timeouts, customer services down. Beside him, Buster opened one eye with the expression of a dog reconsidering this sleepover.

WolfyI am dog-sitting for the weekend. I had planned walks, food, and perhaps a responsible amount of couch time. The plan did not include explaining a P0 incident to a dog while searching for my glasses with my eyes half closed.

NarratorThe Slack call to action arrived at 3:48. Wolfy stumbled to his desk, tail dragging. Twelve people gathered in the video war room, including the CTO, the VP of Engineering, senior engineers, and a CEO who was mysteriously also awake.
